The Model Y SUV will be Tesla’s first offering for Indian buyers. The first batch of vehicles, already imported, includes the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) variants.

  • Expected Range: Up to 595 km (CLTC)

  • Acceleration: 0–100 km/h in 4.3–5.9 seconds

  • Charging: Supports fast DC charging, up to 250 kW

  • Features: 15-inch central touchscreen, panoramic glass roof, Autopilot features

Pricing & Import Duties

While the base RWD version was imported at an estimated value of ₹27.7 lakh, India’s 70% import duty could push showroom prices above ₹43–50 lakh. Tesla is launching in the luxury EV segment for now, before any plans for local manufacturing.

Tesla’s India Strategy

The Mumbai showroom will be Tesla’s first physical location in India, followed by plans to open another in Delhi NCR. The company is also expected to expand its service network and charging infrastructure in major metro cities over the next year.
