Indian-Origin Sabih Khan Named Apple’s New COO

In a significant leadership move, Apple Inc. has appointed Sabih Khan, an Indian-origin technocrat, as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Khan, who has been with Apple for over two decades, will now take charge of the company’s global operations, supply chain, and manufacturing strategy — a role previously held by Jeff Williams.

This move marks a major milestone for diversity and Indian representation in global tech leadership, as Khan becomes one of the top-ranking executives at the world’s most valuable company.

Who Is Sabih Khan?

Born to Indian parents and raised in Singapore, Sabih Khan holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He joined Apple in 1995 and has played a vital role in scaling the company’s global supply chain, sustainability efforts, and manufacturing operations.

Known for his low profile but high impact, Khan has been instrumental in expanding Apple’s global production footprint, particularly in India and Southeast Asia, as part of the company’s efforts to diversify beyond China.

Responsibilities as Chief Operating Officer

As COO, Khan will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing Apple’s global supply chain and logistics

  • Managing Apple’s hardware engineering and manufacturing units

  • Leading Apple’s sustainability and environmental efforts

  • Ensuring ethical labor practices and supplier accountability across continents

Khan’s elevation comes at a time when Apple is navigating geopolitical uncertainties, increasing manufacturing in India, and facing global demand-supply fluctuations.

A Moment of Pride for the Indian Diaspora

Khan’s rise has resonated across Indian and global tech circles. Social media platforms have been flooded with congratulatory messages, with many lauding his decades of dedication, technical acumen, and leadership in a company known for its innovation and operational excellence.

“Sabih represents the best of global leadership — a quiet visionary who’s helped make Apple what it is today,” said an Apple insider.

This appointment adds Khan to a growing list of Indian-origin leaders heading top positions in major global firms like Google (Sundar Pichai), Microsoft (Satya Nadella), and IBM (Arvind Krishna).
