Revised Timeline Brings Clarity

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released a revised NEET UG 2025 counselling schedule for Round 1. This move addresses confusion caused by the sudden suspension of the choice-filling process on August 5, 2025. According to the latest notice issued on August 6, candidates can now register until 3 PM on August 6 and fill choices until 8 AM on August 7. Additionally, choice locking is open from August 6 to 11:55 PM on August 7.

Seat allotment results are expected on August 9. With over 12.36 lakh candidates competing for nearly 1.18 lakh MBBS seats across 780 medical colleges, this extension is a major relief.

Reason Behind the Suspension

Earlier this week, the MCC halted the choice-filling process without explanation, leaving thousands of aspirants anxious. While no official reason was cited, experts suggest that a re-verification of seat matrices may have been necessary. Furthermore, the approval of NRI status for 188 candidates possibly influenced the change.

This revised NEET UG 2025 counselling schedule reflects the MCC’s attempt to ensure accuracy and fairness for top institutions like AIIMS, JIPMER, and BHU.

Important Dates and How to Proceed

The updated timeline includes:

Registration & Payment: Ends at 3 PM and 6 PM respectively on August 6

Choice Locking: Open until 11:55 PM on August 7

Seat Allotment Processing: August 7–8

Results Declaration: August 9

College Reporting: August 9–18

To participate, candidates must visit mcc.nic.in, use their NEET UG 2025 roll number to register, pay the applicable fees (₹1,000 for General/EWS, plus a ₹10,000 refundable security deposit), and lock in their course and college preferences.

The MCC strongly advises aspirants to regularly check the official website to avoid missing these crucial deadlines.

Why This Matters

NEET UG counselling manages 15% of All India Quota (AIQ) seats, 100% of central university seats, and all seats in institutions like AIIMS and JIPMER. With about 10 aspirants vying for each seat, every deadline and update matters.

This extension allows students more time to assess their preferences and increase their chances of securing a seat in reputed medical colleges. Notably, the MCC has clarified that holidays and weekends will be treated as working days to speed up the process.
