Mumbai, June 17, 2025 — A shocking wall collapse in the Bandra locality of Mumbai left a 25-year-old man critically injured and another woman wounded on Monday. The incident occurred following incessant rainfall in the city, weakening an old structure near a residential complex.

The injured youth was rushed to Bhabha Hospital, where doctors have described his condition as “extremely critical.” The woman, who reportedly suffered a shoulder injury, is stable and receiving treatment at a local clinic. According to onlookers, the wall fell suddenly, trapping the man and woman who were passing by.

Municipal officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reached the site within minutes and cordoned off the area. Preliminary reports suggest that the wall belonged to a decades-old compound that had not undergone timely repairs. An investigation is underway to determine the liability and potential negligence of the building owners or the maintenance body.

Rain-related incidents have become alarmingly common in Mumbai during monsoon months. Despite previous warnings from the BMC regarding vulnerable structures, many such accidents continue to occur, raising concerns about civic safety and infrastructure upkeep.

The Bandra wall collapse has reignited public outcry demanding stricter audits of old buildings and compound walls across the city. Local residents revealed that they had raised complaints regarding the dilapidated structure months ago, but no remedial action was taken by authorities.

The BMC is now expected to issue notices to neighboring buildings to assess structural vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, city engineers and disaster management teams are conducting checks across flood-prone zones and congested residential areas to prevent further tragedies.
