Maruti Suzuki Unveils Major Green Logistics Facility in Manesar

Maruti Suzuki India has launched the country’s largest in‑plant railway siding within its Manesar (Haryana) manufacturing campus. Built over 46 acres, this siding features four loading lines, an engine escape track, and 8.2 km of electrified track directly linked to the national rail network.

The siding debuted with its first train carrying 276 cars to Nagpur, signaling a shift from road transport to rail logistics. Maruti aims to dispatch 450,000 vehicles annually via this route, targeting 35 percent of total dispatches by FY 2030–31—a significant increase from the current 24 percent.

This new rail infrastructure is expected to eliminate 65,000 road trips per year, cutting fuel consumption by 60 million litres and slashing CO₂ emissions by 175,000 tonnes annually. It will provide direct access to over 380 cities and streamline exports via Mundra and Pipavav ports.

The facility is part of the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), linking Manesar to Palwal and Sonipat, and integrates with the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor through a 6.9 km spur to Patli. Developed under the PM GatiShakti initiative, the project involved a ₹452 crore investment—₹325 crore into HORC and ₹127 crore into internal infrastructure.

Maruti Suzuki’s MD & CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, described this as a milestone in their green logistics strategy, aligning with the company’s carbon reduction goals and India’s net‑zero objectives. It follows a similar facility in Gujarat and complements upcoming plans at Kharkhoda.

  • Facility size: 46 acres & 8.2 km electrified track

  • Annual dispatch capacity: 450,000 vehicles

  • Reduced road trips: 65,000 fewer annually

  • Environmental gains: 60 million litres fuel saved; 175,000 tonnes CO₂ reduction

  • Strategic rail links: Connection to Western DFC via Patli

  • Investment: ₹452 crore under PM GatiShakti

  • Dispatch target: Increase to 35% rail logistics by FY 2030–31
