Reliance Jio has introduced the AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 router, claiming ultra-fast speeds and low latency for gamers and streamers alike. But there’s a key limitation that users must know before jumping in.

Reliance Jio, India’s telecom giant, has launched its AX6000 Wi-Fi 6 router, promising blazing-fast internet speeds, lower latency, and support for up to 240 connected devices. Targeted at heavy users — such as gamers, streamers, and smart home owners — the router aims to bring premium-level wireless performance to Indian homes.

Built on the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) standard, the AX6000 features:

Dual-band connectivity (2.4GHz + 5GHz)
MU-MIMO and OFDMA technologies for efficient data handling
USB 3.0 ports for network storage
2.5 Gbps WAN port for ultra-high-speed fiber connections

“The AX6000 is designed for next-gen digital homes. Whether you’re streaming 4K, gaming online, or running IoT devices — this router handles it all,” said a Jio spokesperson.

However, despite its advanced specs and strong build, the router comes with a major catch that has left many tech enthusiasts skeptical: It’s currently locked to JioFiber only.

This means the AX6000 won’t function with any non-Jio ISPs, making it unusable with Airtel, BSNL, ACT, or other fiber connections. While this isn’t uncommon for telecom-linked hardware, it significantly limits flexibility for consumers.

What’s the Catch? (Key Drawback):

Locked to JioFiber — cannot be used with other internet providers
No public pricing revealed yet — believed to be bundled in premium plans
Unclear firmware support — limited customization for advanced users
Lack of mesh networking support at launch

Users hoping to buy the AX6000 independently and use it on third-party networks are currently out of luck. Tech forums and early reviewers have flagged this as a deal-breaker, especially for users who prefer ISP-neutral routers.

Still, for existing JioFiber users, the AX6000 could be a significant upgrade — especially those subscribing to higher-tier broadband plans offering 1 Gbps+ speeds.
