Ireland’s Winning Streak Continues
On August 6, 2025, Ireland Women defeated Pakistan Women by 11 runs in the 1st T20I of the Pakistan Women’s tour of Ireland, held at Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin. Ireland defended 142 runs successfully, thanks to a tight bowling display led by Orla Prendergast. Pakistan fell short, finishing at 131/9. This win marks Ireland’s eighth consecutive women’s T20I victory and gives them a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Prendergast’s All-Round Brilliance
Orla Prendergast played a match-winning role, scoring 29 off 26 balls and taking 3 wickets for 28 runs. She built a crucial 45-run partnership with Amy Hunter, who scored a brisk 37 from 30 deliveries. Although Gaby Lewis departed early for just 1, Leah Paul’s quickfire 28 off 19 helped Ireland post a competitive total.
Pakistan’s captain Fatima Sana stood out with the ball, picking up 4 wickets for 26 runs—her best T20I bowling performance. However, Prendergast dismissed key batters like Muneeba Ali and Natalia Pervaiz at crucial moments, tipping the match in Ireland’s favour.
Pakistan’s Fight Falls Short
Opting to field first, Pakistan made early inroads. Yet, their chase stumbled after a middle-order collapse. Rameen Shamim (27 off 20) and Natalia Pervaiz (29 off 23) offered late resistance with a 31-run stand for the seventh wicket. Jane Maguire bowled a tight spell, finishing with 2/20. Her dismissal of Shamim in the final over sealed the game. Pakistan missed the services of Sadaf Shamas, who sat out due to a quadriceps injury, further weakening their batting lineup.
