Indore Steps Aside for Others to Shine
Indore, India’s poster city for cleanliness, has now moved into the elite ‘Super Swachh League’ category. This strategic shift comes under the Union Government’s new ranking framework to allow other deserving cities like Ahmedabad, Lucknow, and Bhopal to gain recognition. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs redesigned the evaluation method to ensure diversity in leadership and promote healthy competition.
Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Lucknow Top New List
For the 2025 rankings, the government assessed cleanliness across urban India using improved metrics. Ahmedabad took the lead, followed by Bhopal and Lucknow. Indore Sets a Gold Standard
Indore’s success story is no accident. The city invested in robust waste management systems, aggressive citizen outreach, and technology-driven monitoring. Consequently, it secured the top rank in Swachh Bharat rankings for six consecutive years. Rather than continuing its dominance, Indore now mentors other cities under the ‘Super Swachh League.’
Citizens and Policy Makers React
Urban development experts have praised the move as visionary. Residents of Indore feel proud their city now serves as a benchmark. On the other hand, people from newly ranked cities celebrated their recognition with civic pride. A Bhopal resident said, “This motivates us to maintain and improve our city’s hygiene.”
