Indore Cracks Down on Repeat Traffic Offenders

In a strict move to enforce traffic discipline, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Indore is set to cancel the registration of 31 vehicles involved in repeated traffic rule violations. The crackdown follows detailed monitoring by the Smart City surveillance system, which flagged vehicles with over ten violations each—some with more than twenty.

Common Offences and Action Taken

The most frequent offences include red-light jumping, triple riding, and reckless driving. These violations were recorded through automated traffic cameras and verified by transport authorities. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, the RTO holds the authority to cancel registration of vehicles involved in habitual offences.

The department has issued official notices to the owners of the vehicles in question, giving them seven days to present their explanations. If they fail to respond within the stipulated time, the RTO will move forward with suspension and cancellation procedures. This will make it illegal to operate those vehicles on public roads.

Collector’s Directive and Broader Enforcement

The decision comes following instructions from Indore Collector Asheesh Singh to take strict action against habitual offenders. The enforcement drive involved coordination between the traffic police, NIC, Smart City officials, treasury department, and the RTO.

Authorities believe that strict action will act as a deterrent and help in maintaining better road discipline. Similar operations are being planned for buses, commercial vehicles, and repeat violators in public transport systems.

Why This Action Matters

  • Public Safety: Removing repeat violators improves road safety for all commuters.

  • Enforcement Efficiency: Technology-enabled tracking ensures fair and accurate identification of offenders.

  • Legal Accountability: Vehicle owners will now face the consequences of repeated non-compliance with road rules.
