The Innovation Behind Indoor Saffron Farming

Anil Jaiswal, a resident of Indore Indoor saffron farming India, Madhya Pradesh, has successfully cultivated Kashmiri saffron inside an air-conditioned room using hydroponic techniques. Traditionally grown in the cold valleys of Kashmir, saffron is India’s most expensive spice. Yet, Jaiswal has broken barriers by growing it under artificial conditions with precision.

Hydroponics and Controlled Climate Did the Trick

He used Dutch technology involving hydroponics and climate-controlled LED environments to mimic the natural conditions required for saffron cultivation. This not only eliminates seasonal dependency but also minimizes the use of water and land.

High Yields and Great Potential

Anil’s saffron fetches ₹500 per gram, and he expects up to 1 kg of yield per season. Meanwhile, traditional methods yield lower returns due to weather challenges. He uses a 12×15 ft AC room, automated irrigation, and 100% organic practices to deliver premium quality spice.

Farmers Show Interest in Training

Notably, over 100 farmers from across the country have approached him for training. Jaiswal offers affordable online training at just ₹500, making his knowledge accessible to all. This opens up new career and income avenues for urban growers and small-scale entrepreneurs.

Recognition and Future Goals

Recognizing his contribution, Jaiswal aims to scale this method further, including expanding commercial saffron production in other non-traditional states. He proves that innovation in agriculture doesn’t need acres of land—just a smart mind and bold initiative.
