Honeymoon Turns Tragic: Wife Accused of Orchestrating Husband’s Murder in Meghalaya
A romantic getaway ended in tragedy as the wife of an Indore-based businessman has been accused of plotting his murder during their honeymoon. Sonam Raghuvanshi, 24, allegedly hired contract killers to murder her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, 29, while they vacationed in the scenic hills of Meghalaya.
According to police reports, Sonam surrendered at a police station in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after Raja’s body was found in a deep gorge near Wei Sawdong waterfalls in Cherrapunji. The arrest followed a rapid and coordinated investigation between Meghalaya, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh police departments.
Police have confirmed that four individuals have been arrested, including Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi, all of whom confessed during initial interrogations. The fourth suspect, Raj Singh Kushwaha, 21, is believed to be Sonam’s romantic partner and one of the key conspirators. One suspect is still on the run.
CCTV footage, mobile location data, and local witness statements helped piece together the chilling sequence. A local guide rejected by the couple had earlier spotted Sonam accompanied by three men at the location where Raja was last seen. Police later recovered Raja’s body and a ‘dao’ (traditional machete) believed to be the murder weapon.
Forensic examinations confirmed signs of a violent struggle. Preliminary findings suggest that Raja was ambushed, attacked, and pushed into the gorge.
