People observe this day especially in North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. As the name suggests, this day also promotes the planting of trees and nature worship.

Puja Vidhi and Rituals for the Day

On Hariyali Amavasya, devotees wake up early and bathe in holy rivers or at home. Afterward, they worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati by offering bilva leaves, white flowers, raw milk, and gangajal. Some also plant trees or distribute saplings.

Women observe fasts and pray for the longevity and well-being of their families. They also tie sacred threads (mouli) on peepal or banyan trees while chanting mantras.

Remedies and Spiritual Practices

  • Offer black sesame seeds (til) and water to ancestors.

  • Light a diya under a peepal tree to remove negative energies.

  • Feed cows, dogs, or crows to attract positive karmic blessings.

  • Donate clothes, food, or dakshina to Brahmins or the needy.

Moreover, astrologers recommend donating iron items, mustard oil, and black urad dal to reduce the malefic effects of Shani (Saturn).

Astrological Importance

As per Hindu astrology, Hariyali Amavasya falls under Pitru Paksha alignment, a favorable time for connecting with ancestral energy. Performing rituals on this day ensures peace for departed souls and removes planetary doshas (flaws) from the birth chart.

Astrologers also consider it ideal for performing grah dosh nivaran pujas and initiating spiritual sadhanas.
