In a move set to benefit frequent highway travelers, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has launched a FASTag Annual Pass for private, non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari revealed that the scheme will be effective from August 15, 2025.
Priced at just ₹3,000, the pass will allow up to 200 toll plaza entries or remain valid for 12 months, whichever occurs first. This initiative aims to ease traffic congestion, ensure barrier-free toll collection, and reduce disputes at toll booths—especially on national highways that are within 60 km of each other.
The scheme is especially beneficial for daily commuters, intercity travelers, and those living in peri-urban areas who cross toll plazas frequently.

Why It Matters
India’s highways have seen an exponential rise in traffic, with toll congestion becoming a common issue. The new FASTag Annual Pass provides not only convenience but also cost savings for users who cross multiple toll booths each month. It is part of the government’s broader roadmap to move toward fully digital, barrier-free tolling, using GPS and RFID-based technologies.
By capping toll usage at a flat rate, the government also aims to simplify fare structures and make frequent travel more predictable for users.
Earlier proposals like a ₹30,000 lifetime toll pass for 15 years were scrapped in favor of this more affordable and accessible annual model. The government also considered a distance-based model charging ₹50 per 100 km, but the annual pass will be rolled out first.
