Dominant Start Under Şahin’s Guidance
Borussia Dortmund kicked off their 2025/26 pre-season in style with a massive 8-1 victory against fifth-tier German side Sportfreunde Siegen. In their first game under new head coach Nuri Şahin, the Bundesliga giants looked sharp, fluid, and aggressive from the first whistle.
The match, played at the Leimbachstadion, saw Dortmund field a strong lineup in the opening half. Notably, Marcel Sabitzer pulled the strings in midfield, while Julian Brandt and Donyell Malen provided the attacking threat.
Goals Galore in First Half
Dortmund wasted no time establishing dominance. Within 30 minutes, they had already netted four goals. Sabitzer opened the scoring with a clinical strike before Malen doubled the lead shortly after. Brandt and young striker Samuel Bamba also got on the scoresheet, making it 4-0 before half-time.
Although Siegen managed to pull one back through a well-taken effort from Kamil Bednarski, it did little to change the momentum. Dortmund continued to control possession and press high up the pitch.
Second-Half Substitutes Shine Bright
In the second half, Şahin introduced several young talents and fringe players. Impressively, the team maintained intensity and added four more goals. Ole Pohlmann, Hendry Blank, and Youssoufa Moukoko all found the net, underlining the depth in Dortmund’s squad.
The eighth goal, scored by Moukoko in the 89th minute, was a brilliant solo effort that capped off a dominant display. Although it was only a friendly, Dortmund’s attacking precision and fitness levels were on full display.
Coach Şahin’s Tactical Flexibility
Nuri Şahin, making his managerial debut for Dortmund, appeared pleased with his team’s composure and energy. His flexible 4-2-3-1 formation allowed players to express themselves while keeping defensive shape intact. Additionally, his rotation strategy gave valuable minutes to both experienced stars and emerging prospects.
After the game, Şahin praised his squad’s professionalism:
“It’s important to start strong, but more importantly, the team showed chemistry and effort. We’ll keep building on this.”
