With India shifting towards cleaner mobility, automakers are now preparing to bring hybrid powertrains to their most popular midsize SUVs. According to industry sources, Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, two of the country’s top-selling SUVs, are likely to receive strong hybrid variants in the coming months.

This move comes as demand grows for fuel-efficient yet powerful alternatives to traditional petrol and diesel engines, especially in the urban market.

   What Is a Strong Hybrid?

A strong hybrid system combines a petrol engine with a powerful electric motor and battery setup. Unlike mild hybrids, it can:

  • Run on electric power alone for short distances

  • Offer better mileage

  • Reduce tailpipe emissions

  • Provide smoother city driving

Toyota and Maruti have already seen success with this setup in the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Grand Vitara.

  1. Hyundai Creta Hybrid (Expected 2025–26)

  • Likely to borrow hybrid tech from Hyundai’s global models like the Tucson Hybrid

  • May feature a 1.5L petrol engine + electric motor combo

  • Could offer 20+ km/l mileage

  • Aimed at urban buyers and fleet operators looking for long-term savings

Expected Launch: Mid to late 2025
Price Range: ₹15–20 lakh (estimated)

   2. Kia Seltos Hybrid (Expected 2026)

  • Expected to share the same platform and drivetrain as the Creta Hybrid

  • Will offer a sportier design with enhanced fuel economy

  • Likely to feature drive modes (Eco, Sport, EV) and regenerative braking

Expected Launch: Late 2025 to early 2026
Price Range: ₹16–21 lakh (estimated)

    Why Hybrid Now?

  • Fuel Prices: Hybrids offer a middle ground between petrol and full-electric

  • No Range Anxiety: Unlike EVs, hybrids refuel like conventional cars

  • Government Push: Stricter emission norms are encouraging hybrid development

  • Customer Demand: Mileage-conscious buyers now want power + economy

    Key Highlights (Bullet Points):

  • Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos expected to get strong hybrid variants

  • Mileage could cross 20 km/l

  • Better for city driving with reduced emissions

  • Launch expected between mid-2025 and early 2026

  • Likely to compete with Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Grand Vitara
