A horrifying incident stunned Bengaluru late last week when a 25-year-old software professional, identified as Yashas, allegedly stabbed his 33-year-old lover—married mother of two—to death inside a city hotel. The incident, which occurred around the night of June 6, came to light only days later when hotel staff discovered the victim’s lifeless body.
The Incident
The victim, Harini (aged 33), was found in her room at an OYO hotel in Poorna Prajna Layout, having suffered 13 stab wounds, according to initial police findings. Following the discovery, police registered a murder case at Subramanyapura Police Station and launched a manhunt for Yashas.
Authorities report that Harini and Yashas, both from Kengeri, had been in a romantic relationship for approximately a year. In recent months, Harini expressed a desire to distance herself—partly due to pressure at home after her husband became aware of the affair.
Motive & Arrest
According to DCP Lokesh B Jagalasar, the murder was “driven by anger and jealousy” when Harini informed Yashas she wished to end their relationship. In a fit of rage, he allegedly attacked her repeatedly in the hotel room.
Police reports indicate Harini had started hanging out less with Yashas, triggering heightened tension. Soon after the killing, Yashas was apprehended and is currently in judicial custody as the investigation into the brutal murder continues.
Legal Proceedings & Investigation
Authorities are working to piece together the sequence of events. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage, forensic reports, and communication records to reconstruct the timeline. Harini’s body was discovered two days post-incident when hotel staff alerted the police, describing the scene as disturbing and bloody.
Yashas has been formally charged with murder. Additional legal provisions are being examined in light of the relationship’s extramarital nature and the involvement of domestic dynamics.
Broader Implications
This case spotlights how intimately personal conflicts can escalate into extreme violence, especially in clandestine relationships. Experts underline the need for better mental health support, awareness on controlling jealousy, and stronger systems allowing at-risk individuals to seek help promptly.
