India Gears Up to Build the Largest AI-Ready Student Force
India is on track to create the world’s largest pool of AI-trained school students by 2025. Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State for Education, announced this during the 10-year celebration of the Skill India Mission. The new BharatSkillNXT program will lead this transformation.
With a special focus on artificial intelligence, the initiative brings AI training into classrooms. Students from Class 6 onwards will now receive early exposure to AI tools and concepts.
BharatSkillNXT: Transforming Classrooms with Future Skills
BharatSkillNXT introduces AI, robotics, and data science into school education. Unlike traditional programs, it blends hands-on training with real-world applications. Teachers will also receive special training to deliver these modules effectively.
Moreover, the government will collaborate with EdTech firms and AI labs. This ensures students gain both academic and industry-relevant skills. As a result, learners will not just understand technology—they’ll be ready to use it.
Skill India at 10: A Shift Toward Tech-Driven Learning
Since 2015, Skill India has trained over 1.5 crore youth across India. Over the past decade, the focus remained on vocational education. Now, it is shifting to digital and AI-led learning.
BharatSkillNXT represents this new direction. It aims to reach underserved schools and rural communities as well. This approach ensures inclusivity while boosting the nation’s digital potential.
Why This Matters for India’s Future
This initiative prepares young Indians for tomorrow’s job market. As global demand for AI talent grows, India can fill the gap with a skilled student population. Furthermore, it gives India a strong position in tech leadership.
Education leaders welcomed the move. However, they stressed the importance of equal access. Rural students need infrastructure support to benefit from AI education.
