Wimbledon 2025: Swiatek Ends Bencic Dream Run to Reach First Final at SW19

After years of near misses and growing pressure, Iga Swiatek has etched her name into Wimbledon history. The Polish superstar advanced to her first Wimbledon final on Thursday with a commanding 6-4, 6-3 win over Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic, ending the latter’s dream run.

With this victory, Swiatek becomes only the second woman in the Open Era to reach finals at all four Grand Slams before the age of 25, joining an elite club alongside Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova.

From Clay Queen to Grass Contender

Swiatek, known for her dominance on clay—especially at Roland Garros—has long struggled to adapt her game to grass courts. But this year, the 23-year-old arrived at Wimbledon with renewed focus and a more aggressive all-court approach.

“It’s been a long journey to feel comfortable on grass,” Swiatek said after the match. “I’ve worked so hard for this moment, and I’m proud to finally be here.”

Her improved serve placement, net coverage, and confidence in longer rallies helped her outmaneuver Bencic, who had previously taken down top seeds en route to the semis.

Belinda Bencic’s Inspired Run Ends

Although Bencic’s run came to an end, her Wimbledon campaign was nothing short of remarkable. The Swiss Olympic gold medalist was competing in her first Slam semifinal in over three years and played with fearlessness throughout the tournament.

Despite her loss, Bencic received a standing ovation from Centre Court, cementing her return to the top tier of women’s tennis.

What’s Next for Swiatek

Swiatek will now face Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon 2025 final—a matchup that promises to be both emotional and explosive. With four Grand Slam titles already in her cabinet (all on clay or hard court), this grass-court final presents a chance for Swiatek to complete her surface slam.

A victory would also put her in rare company, further solidifying her legacy as a multi-surface Grand Slam champion and arguably the most complete player of her generation.
