Kia EV6 GT Shocks Ferrari Purosangue in Drag Race

Electric vehicles are no longer just eco-conscious alternatives—they’re becoming performance powerhouses. In a recent drag race that stunned enthusiasts, the Kia EV6 GT left Ferrari’s V12-powered Purosangue trailing in the quarter-mile. The result may seem unbelievable on paper, but it highlights how far EV performance has come in a short span.

Instant Torque Gives EVs the Edge

The Kia EV6 GT is equipped with dual electric motors producing a combined 641 PS and 770 Nm of torque. This powertrain enables it to accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds. In the drag race, it completed the quarter-mile in approximately 11.3 seconds, narrowly edging out the Ferrari Purosangue’s 11.5-second result.

The Ferrari, despite its naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 engine generating around 725 PS, struggled to match the EV’s instant torque off the line—a key advantage of electric propulsion.

Performance Meets Practicality

While the EV6 GT is a family-friendly electric SUV, it offers features typically found in high-performance sports cars. Highlights include:

  • Drift Mode for rear-biased fun

  • 800V ultra-fast charging (10% to 80% in just ~18 minutes)

  • Dual-motor all-wheel drive for excellent traction

  • Sport-tuned suspension and braking system

All this, in a vehicle that costs a fraction of the Ferrari Purosangue’s price tag.

Are EVs Becoming the New Supercars?

This race is more than just a one-off win. It symbolizes a major shift in the performance car landscape. EVs like the EV6 GT are now capable of matching, and sometimes beating, ICE supercars in real-world scenarios such as acceleration tests.

Key advantages include:

  • Instant torque delivery

  • Simpler drivetrain with fewer energy losses

  • Advanced electronic control systems

As technology continues to improve, more EVs are expected to rival or outperform legacy supercars in various aspects—from speed to sustainability.

Why This Is a Big Deal

  • Performance evolution: Electric cars are proving they’re not just efficient—they’re fast, powerful, and fun to drive.

  • Affordability gap: The EV6 GT provides supercar-level speed at a significantly lower price point.

  • Market disruption: Traditional high-performance brands now face serious competition from tech-forward EVs.
