Techie Held for Invasion of Privacy at Infosys Bengaluru Campus
Bengaluru: A software engineer working at Infosys has been arrested for allegedly recording a female colleague inside the company’s restroom at one of its Bengaluru offices. The shocking incident took place on July 1 and has triggered serious concerns over women’s safety and corporate security protocols.
According to the police, the accused was apprehended after the woman raised an alarm upon noticing a mobile phone placed strategically in the washroom. Her colleagues and security personnel acted swiftly and detained the techie, who later confessed during preliminary investigation.
Company Response & Legal Action
Infosys has issued a formal statement, affirming its cooperation with law enforcement and reiterating its zero-tolerance policy towards such misconduct. “We are deeply disturbed by this incident and are working with the police. The employee has been suspended pending investigation,” said a spokesperson.
The techie has been booked under Sections 354C (voyeurism) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and further investigation is underway.
Rising Safety Concerns in Workspaces
This incident sheds light on the growing need for enhanced surveillance, strict HR policies, and safer workplace practices in India’s tech corridors. Despite numerous corporate sensitization programs, cases of harassment and privacy invasion continue to surface, highlighting the gaps in internal security.
Several employee welfare organizations have now demanded that Infosys and other IT companies upgrade CCTV monitoring and establish stronger whistleblower mechanisms to ensure female employees feel secure.
