A serious embarrassment for the state administration unfolded when 19 vehicles from the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister’s convoy broke down en route due to diesel adulterated with water. The convoy, which was part of a scheduled tour in Seoni district, was brought to a halt just minutes after refueling at a local petrol pump.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s security team revealed that several vehicles began stalling and emitting white smoke shortly after refueling. Mechanics on-site later confirmed the presence of significant water content in the diesel, causing engine malfunctions across the fleet, including support and escort vehicles.
Fortunately, the Chief Minister’s primary vehicle was unaffected as it was fueled from a separate, vetted source.
Petrol Pump Sealed, Probe Ordered:
In swift response, district authorities sealed the fuel station suspected of supplying the contaminated diesel. Fuel samples have been collected and sent to a government laboratory for forensic testing.
“Initial checks confirm diesel-water mixture. Strict action will be taken once full test results are in,” said a district official.
The petrol pump owner and staff have been taken in for questioning. Authorities are also verifying whether similar fuel batches were sold to the general public.
Security and Public Safety Concerns:
The incident has raised concerns over:
-
Security lapses in fuel sourcing for VIP convoys
-
The quality control practices of fuel stations in the region
-
Risks posed to civilians using adulterated fuel
This is not the first time adulterated fuel has caused problems in the state, but the fact that it affected the Chief Minister’s convoy has intensified scrutiny.
Adulterated Fuel Effects:
-
Water in diesel can damage the fuel injection system
-
Causes engine misfire, stalling, corrosion, and smoke
-
Long-term damage includes fuel pump failure and costly repairs
Vehicle experts say even small amounts of water can cause significant issues, especially in diesel engines.
