In a chilling case that echoes the plotlines of crime thrillers, a man from Udaipur has been arrested for allegedly killing a woman and attempting to dispose of her body by burning it—an act he reportedly admitted was inspired by the Bollywood movie Drishyam and the crime docu-series Crime Patrol.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Mukesh (name changed), meticulously planned the murder to avoid detection. The victim, a woman known to the accused, had reportedly been pressuring him over a personal dispute. What began as an altercation quickly escalated into a heinous crime. After murdering her, the accused transported the body to an isolated location and set it ablaze in an effort to destroy evidence, mimicking scenes he had seen in crime dramas.

The police, however, were quick to act. A local villager noticed suspicious activity and reported it, leading authorities to the crime scene. Despite the attempt to burn the body, forensic experts were able to gather crucial evidence. Through surveillance and interrogation, the accused confessed, citing inspiration from fictional crime stories where perpetrators elude justice through clever manipulation.
“This is a disturbing trend. People are blurring the lines between fiction and reality. These shows may raise awareness, but they should never be seen as blueprints for crime,” said a senior investigating officer.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the influence of crime-based entertainment on vulnerable minds. Mental health experts emphasize the need for media literacy and psychological support, especially among viewers prone to obsessive behavior.
This gruesome event underscores the need for vigilance—not only from law enforcement but also from society, in monitoring how deeply popular culture can affect behavior.
