A tragic incident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near the Bilaspur flyover in Gurugram when a speeding SUV collided with a police van parked on the side of the road. The impact was so severe that a home guard inside the van was thrown off the flyover, falling nearly 10 feet onto the service road below. He is currently undergoing treatment for multiple injuries.

According to police reports, the van was stationed on the expressway’s shoulder to monitor traffic and assist with night patrolling duties. The SUV, reportedly moving at a high speed, lost control and rear-ended the police vehicle, causing substantial damage. The home guard, who was sitting in the back, bore the brunt of the impact.

Following the crash, local authorities arrived at the scene and an FIR has been registered against the SUV driver for rash and negligent driving under IPC sections. Police are examining CCTV footage and have initiated an investigation into whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol or using a mobile phone at the time of the incident.

This accident underscores ongoing concerns about driver behavior on high-speed corridors and the need for better enforcement of traffic rules. Despite multiple campaigns on road safety and installation of speed cameras, such reckless driving incidents continue to pose serious risks not only to civilians but also to frontline workers on duty.

Experts have called for additional barriers and designated stopping zones on expressways to protect emergency responders and law enforcement personnel who are vulnerable during road patrols. The home guard’s condition is stable, and he is expected to recover, but the incident has served as a grim reminder of the perils faced by those ensuring our road safety.
