The vehicle, reportedly overspeeding, lost control while navigating a turn near the Naini industrial area and skidded off the road. All four occupants of the car were friends heading back from a nearby celebration. According to initial reports, the car rammed into the side railing and overturned before crashing into the drain.
Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene upon hearing the sound of the crash. Emergency services were immediately called, and police and fire personnel managed to pull the victims out of the submerged car. Unfortunately, two of them were declared dead on arrival at the nearby hospital, while the other two sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment.
Officials suspect rash driving and lack of visibility in the dim-lit area to be contributing factors in the crash. The authorities are now investigating whether there was alcohol involved or if mechanical failure played a role.
This incident has once again raised questions over road safety, especially in the industrial corridors and poorly lit urban stretches of Prayagraj. Residents demand better lighting, proper barriers along drains, and stricter enforcement of speed limits.
One of the injured, who is in stable condition, shared that they had no idea the car would lose control so suddenly, and everything happened within seconds.
The identities of the victims are being withheld pending notification of families. The local administration has promised a detailed inquiry.
